Who are we?
We are a recreational running club, comprising members of all ages and abilities, who share a common bond of running as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. Sure, we compete from time-to-time, but our wins are personal and we having fun achieving them. Our priorities are to put the "fun" in running and provide a safe, supportive group with whom to train.
The CCRR Executive is elected at the Annual General Meeting, usually held every February. The 2011 committee consists of:
President: Gabriela Tymowski
Vice President: Gary Timberlake
Secretary: Lucia Tramonte
Treasurer: Karen Roberts
Registrar/Web Advisor: Mark Wies
Directors at Large: Jim Ketterling & Harry Drost
You are encouraged to meet your executive on runs, and discuss club issues on runs and via the Message Board.
When do we meet?
Club "Fun Runs"
We meet twice weekly, at the UNB Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium, for a a club "Fun Run" all the year round; on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 PM and Saturday mornings at 8:30 AM. Access to the gym change rooms and showers is available for club runs and at noon during the week (in addition to clinic runs). To use the gym at other times you need to take out a Campus Recreation membership (available at a specially reduced rate for CCRR members--the staff rate as posted). Be sure to always bring your CCRR membership card with you for access to the shower and change rooms. Parking is available at the gym itself or nearby at the Lady Beaverbrook Arena. Visitors to our city, or those just looking for running partners, are always welcome to join us for a "Fun Run".
After the run, club members meet at a local restaurant for a meal, refreshments, and conversation.
Is that it?
Club members meet to run at other times as well:
-
The "nooners" leave from LB Gym, Monday through Friday at 12:05 PM (sharp) to stretch the legs.
-
We have busy lives and often need to arrange our training around other obligations. If your time to run is Tuesday morning at 06:00, chances are there is a club member on your schedule. To find a partner for your runs, you can post a message on the Message Board here on the website.
Where do we go?
Located in the St. John River valley, Fredericton provides a wealth of both scenery and hills for runners. One of Fredericton's prize features is its trail system; over 80 kms in total, following and traversing both the St. John and Nashwaak rivers, the trails connect all corners of the City. The CCRR make great use of this trail system whenever possible.
In the winter, when much of the trail system becomes the domain of the cross-country skier, there is a wide choice of relatively traffic-free routes on the road. A sample of some of the more popular winter routes includes:
-
Sunshine Gardens
-
"The Experimental Farm"
-
Colonial Heights
-
The Hills of Albert
-
Queen Square
-
Marysville
-
Springhill Road

Do I have to be fast to run with you?Not at all! We have members that run 10km in a little more than an hour and, at the other end of the pack, some who would be half that time. The rest of us are spread out in-between. If you have any concern whether you an keep up, drop in on a Wednesday. Our "Fun Runs" are informal: groups of different abilities from each night and, while we all typically follow the same route, each group decides how far they are going to run. As a guest or new member, we will ensure you have someone with whom to run. What else do you do?
The Capital City Road Runners are the proud presenters of the Fredericton Marathon and Fall Classic road races.
In addition to the above, the club hosts special events throughout the year to keep the fun in running, such as the “Predict-your-time” fun runs & walks, the Jingle Bell Run, the “Better-than-Boston” Relay, the Metric Marathon, the Fulton Five, the Dam Run, Not-the-Honolulu Marathon, the Frozen Nose 'n Toes and Open Houses to welcome new members.
The CCRR has adopted a section of the Crosstown Trail in Fredericton. Club runners are proud to promote and model healthy and active lifestyles in our community.
Do you folks do anything other than run?
Footnotes
"FootNotes" provides a window on the local running scene. This section contains articles on running events, race results, and other club activities & events. How do I become a Capital City Road Runner?
We encourage you come out and join us for a few runs before you "officially" sign up ... no pressure... think of it as a test drive. We meet each Wednesday night at 5:30 pm and Saturday mornings at 8:30 am at the UNB Lady Beaverbrook Gym
After you've met us, and you are still interested, then click here to become a Capital City Road Runner.
Those enamoured with organisational formalities - or having time to kill while icing after a hard run - you can read the club constitution.
The new club executive will be updating the club constitution in the months to come.
