Congratulations to Rob Jackson - new Canadian record holder!
March 22nd, 2011

Our very own Rob Jackson set the new Canadian indoor 5000 m Canadian Master's Record (55-59 y) this past Saturday at the Motley Crew Combined event challenge in Gagetown. His record, 17:27:02, breaks the 2008 record set by Dennis Lang of Manitoba (17:47.6).

Rob was paced to his record by Adam Stacey and Chris Gairns at an even pace of 3:30 per km, from start to finish. Ryan O'Shea saw him through to the finish line. Sports Psychologist Ryan Hamilton kept Rob's mind focused and positive. (Ryan gave an inspirational talk to the club last winter... the notes are on the Seminar page on www.ccrr.ca)  And Rob's wife, Nadine, kept him on the straight and narrow during his treadmill training sessions and on the track in Gagetown.  What a team!

Way to go, Rob. You're an inspiration to all of us! We're looking forward to your next challenges!

[Rob pointed out that Ontario runner Ed Whitlock took 90 seconds off the M80 WORLD record for 3000 m on March 19th. He ran it at 4:00 pace, finishing in 12 minutes flat.  Yes, Ed is over 80 years old!!!]
